Right now I have a Linksys Wireless B/G Router, it is set to emit a G signal. My wireless card is set to pickup a G signal. It connects and everything but it is horribly slow. From time to time it also disconnects me. The signal strength is anywhere from Very Good - Excellent.

I also get horrible packet loss. Average ping 60, jumps to 3,000 every couple of minutes. Any ideas?...

Ping your router, Im not sure if you were saying the ping to the router or to the internet was jumping...

if the ping to the router does the same thing, get it away from any wireless phones, monitors, etc.. anything that emits energy...

Also try changing the channel that it uses...

If you have a wireless router or something for your Xbox, disconnect it.

or, you know, try adjusting some of the settings for it? eg try a different channel

or try rearranging your aerial and/or the routers

its not exactly rocket science, although it is a bit of a black art

linksys routers are notoriously shitty (i had 3 before i tossed it and got a netgear) and in my experience i have NEVER gotten a good signal out of one. My advice: go drop 50 bucks and save your sanity

ive got a linksys router, an old B model. everyone in our house runs at 80%+ (except the apple with the broken aerial), and thats been true for about 8 different computers and wireless cards over the years, in two different houses.

seems pretty good to me

I had a Linksys router at one point that couldn't give a decent signal past ten feet.
Do like HI said and get a new one.

I posted here before and Pinged my ROuter and a few websites. the same thing happens. decent ping then BAM it shoots up to over 1000-3000.

I have a wireless phone that emits the exact same signal as the router, but I changed what signal my router emits a long time ago so it doesnt itnerfere, but i dono wtf is going on now. i am literally going insane from this, a few months of it drives the sane person crazy

Some phones switch channels constantly because they search for the best signal... you might have to change channels again or set your phone to stay on one frequency.

the phone shouldnt be using the same channel, since they both must comply with different standard, which specify the frequency bands

however, that doesnt mean that isnt the reason, so try it

on a similar note, find out what channel your neighbours are using and make sure yours is different

other possibilities: switch to long Tx preamble, use a shorter beacon interval, or a lower fragmentation threshold

I had the same problem a few months ago. Due to the large number of unsecure wireless networks around me, it was all pissing eachother off. I just bought a directional antenna for my comp and all is good again.
