who has time for football when there's less than a month until pitchers and catchers report

haha, football.

They should really consider making the super bowl every other year at least. Get bored when its every year.

/waiting for world cup.

ALSO; I've just resorted to trolling everyone on facebook about football now. It's very entertaining.

On topic; Saints'll win.

I've got the Colts but I'd prefer the Saints. And I'm sure a biyearly Super Bowl is a great idea

I think the colts will win, they need better production from their run game.

that said, I'd really like the saints to pull it out.

Is American football popular in Australia?

I love all sports, cricket, soccer, baseball, league, union, american football, whatever, I got into it back when I used to work thursday and friday nights and then saturday and sundays in highschool.

I didn't have time to watch anything, so I'd get up early and watch NFL on monday mornings, sort of grew from there, the season also fits perfectly in between our rugby league one and never clashes with any aussie sport.

To answer your question, it's pretty rare to find anyone that likes it and rarer to find someone who knows what the fuck they're talking about.

and rarer to find someone who knows what the fuck they're talking about.

A lot of times this applies to American fans/commentators as well.

I sometimes watch it when it's on but I don't have much of an idea what the fuck is going on.

Just keep watching it. That's how I (kind of) figured out Rugby.

My understanding of rugby is only slightly higher than that of American football. From what I can tell if you know rugby or American football the similarities between the two makes it easier to figure out the other one.

Of course someone is about to jump up and say they aren't similar at all, well fuck you, they are if you've been raised on Aussie rules.

It's more like rugby league than union. If you made blocking and forward passing legal in rugby league, it'd probably end up extremely similar to American football.

Really thought the Colts had this one but I'm very happy the Saints pulled it out. Not a great game but at least it wasn't a blowout.

I thought that was a pretty good game myself (not a big american football fan), up until the interception made it effectively all over. Worth staying up to watch.

Yeah, there are similarities with rugby league, you need to get your head around the line of scrimmage first though. Then again, league is shit and no-one outside Wigan & St Helens watches that anyway.

Every time I watch a game of american football, I think it could be a great sport, if only they speeded the game up. IMO, eliminating advert breaks, dropping the play clock to 15 seconds and stopping the clock on every down (not just spikes & out of bounds) would be a huge step forwards. Another big improvement to the entertainment (though not the quality!) would be limiting the teams to, say, 15 players.

commercial breaks are especially bad during the super bowl

yeah i'd like it better if there were no adverts, but a 15 second play clock? you'd barely have enough time to get a formation in place, let alone get a play onto the field

also, having a person for each position offensively, defensively, and special teams-wise makes it more strategic, kind of like having 'the right tool for the job' instead of trying to hammer in screws like it would be if you had only 15 players total

That's the problem the NFL has trying to sell overseas but in every other major market ad breaks are shorter and only taken in between plays. They should eliminate ad breaks between the teams changing, only have them on the change of posession or after scores. It's a pain in the ass when there's a 4th down, ad, punt team comes out, kicks, ad, drive starts, 2 minute warning, ad, play - interception, ad, you get to see two plays and 15 minutes of bullshit.

It's great to watch in afternoons because they condense the game to about 1hr 45 mins and cut out all ad breaks except end of half and qtrs.

Since the average game is only around 11 minutes of actual playing we could always just tape delay them :)

The ridiculously lengthy ads aren't going anywhere unfortunately but I'd like for the halftime show to either be eliminated or shortened. And preferably with some entertainers who aren't more suited for a retirement home.

the last time that happened america saw a titty and we can't have that

Polish Hill

True but tape delay could solve that problem. And if we do have a wardrobe malfunction I hope its someone like Carrie Underwood, Miss Jackson isn't doing it for me.

Rather see some black titties than listen to The Who (or similar old band) butcher my ears again.
