View Full Version : Odd problem with Whacks new stuff...

After a complicated afternoon, we have come to a problem.
Mobo- http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813123246
Ram- http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820145309

On attempted boot, the error LEDs say "c1", which according to the manual means its hanging attempted to find the RAM. Much swapping has occured, with no difference in error.

So, I ask, any ideas? Is the RAM bad? (Tried both sticks independantaly) Is this Mobo DOA?

I appeal to the gods!

My guess is that the mobo is bad... to be sure, see if you can obtain other RAM sticks to put into the EPoX mobo or put the Corsair sticks into another computer to see if they work.

Other ram will be hard to come by in Whacks area. God damnit.

Hard to throw RAM 3000 miles :)

Get on the phone with EPoX and see what they have to say about it.

Aye, thats my next step as soon as I can get the serial numbers off whack.

On an alternate line of thought, could it be insufficent power? The mobo requires 400 W to run, and thats exactly what the PS puts out.

Is there anything else hooked into it? Videocard, harddrives, optical drives, PCI cards, etc? If there is, get those uninstalled and try only with the mobo/cpu/ram... try to get it to POST.

edit: also, make sure he has the motherboard mounted correctly inside his case. On top of the correct standoffs, that is.

Aye, this I will test once hes back from work.

I hear epox boards are awfully finicky...my brother has two 256mb sticks (different brands) and one of them that works fine in everything else just won't work on his epox board.

But I'd think at least ONE of the sticks he has should work.

Neg, tried every possible combination with the 2 sticks he has. I'm hoping its a power issue, since thats easy to fix.

GG. Got a voicemail from colin. Apparently his OLD 256 meg stick from his older comp works? So apparently, the mobo, which says on the specs 184 pin DDR400 does not like that ram. It enjoys 184 pin DDRSHIT Generic-Dell-Brand instead?

Zing. New mobo time.

If it's a new mobo from newegg, then you'll have to RMA it back to the manufacturer for a replacement. Newegg don't accept RMAs of motherboards.

I left the decision up to Whack. At the moment, he wants to keeo the board and swap the RAM.

Unless you're a hardcore nerdo performance junkie, the ram isn't going to make a huge difference.

Maybe the board doesn't like ECC ram or something?

See, this is why I should never be allowed to touch shit unless it runs on fossil fuels.

I had a hell of a time putting this fucker together, and I refuse to believe the motherboard is borked, I don't give a fuck if it's finicky or not, RAM is easier to find and install.

At the moment it's running fine, except for internet speeds deciding to take a dump in the past few days.

And it goes downhill again. Its refusing to boot. New mobo wether we like it or not it seems.

Well, he went to his dads and I kept playing.

So I firmly believe it's the RAM.

We've used three different sticks... The odds of two brand name top-of-the-line sticks and even one mass-crapped compaq ram ALL being bad...

Update.

The new mobo is dead, because I killed it. It's in it's box, and it's staying there until I ship it the fuck back out of here.

I pieced together my old rig, and after having to apologize to it, she started faithfully right back up. With the two new RAM sticks, I might add.

POS motherboard.

Mainboard: EPoX POS FUCKING DIE

Good, good man.

Well, a new motherboard and its still DOA. Black screen and no angry beep indicating bad RAM of vid card. The only thigns I suspect it could be is the CPU or Powersupply. There was some severe damage to the case and powersupplies box when it was first recieved, maybe its broken. I had thought it was the Epox mobo because of how it worked for a short period of time, and died. Perhaps it wasnt.

Awsome. Apparently the 400 watt powersupply advertised by the thingy is only 350. GG false advertising.

Yeah, here I am back on my old rig.

Again.

Words cannot describe how frustrated I am.

I'd like to recommend Enermax PSU's. They pretty much kick all competition in the nuts.

Well Mirsky, it wouldn't have mattered much, seeing as how my new 500W psu didn't do a damn thing other than add 4 pounds.

By process of elimination, the CPU looks to be bad.

Although I still advise burning it and wearing anti-daemonic wards just incase there ARE witches about, as per my theory.
