"'Hubris', that's all I have to say. 'Hubris'" Marko Gummer, a Costaguanan civil servant, stood in a long bread line He stands in the line with thousands of others trying to get what savings they had left to use for food.

Costaguana, a tiny nation in the southern pacific island chain of Ibiza, had a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much all of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy. Therefore the government decided to change from a democracy to a communist state.

Afterwords, many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in changing from democracy in the first place. And some said that even the short change to monarchy had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the comfort of true believers.

At 6:00 this morning, the building designated for the monthly meeting of the DAP (Doppel Arschfichen Politburo) was the target of a terrorist bombing. The number of casualties is nearing one hundred, including several high ranking Politburo members. At this point, the Kaffer Schwanzen Militia has released little information, but they are suspecting it was a foreign terrorist from the neighboring Val Verde. Our sources verify that the DA National Army has mobilized to its highest state of alert, and diplomatic talks have been engaged for the past several hours. More as this develops.

A correspondent reports that Doppel Arschfichen Airborne troops have assaulted Santa Cruz, the capitol of Val Verde. No statement has yet to be made by either government, but from what our reporters abroad have told us, the fighting has already begun and is fierce. We will provide more information as it is recieved.

A large scale mechanized invasion to complement the airborne landings in Santa Cruz has apparently pushed southeast over the undefended border of Val Verde. The only target of opportunity would be the airfield roughly 100km from the border. Local news confirms this, and we hope that our brave soldiers succeed in this upcoming battle.

DA Premier realized his error after more information about the bombing of the Politburo building. Joint reports have confirmed that the bomber, now identified as a female of currently unknown nationality was not a native of Val Verde. (Continued below.)

With this new information, Doppel Arschfichen Premier, Vasiliy Ulyanov, proposed a truce to Val Verde, which has been accepted. The terms of the truce include a monetary tribute to replace all losses of Val Verdian forces, as well as property damage and compensation for families. Strangely, Val Verdian Colonial Administrator, Rodrigo B. Slug, asked for a lifetime supply of hash and other cannabinoids for personal compensation.

The truce, although rough to accept after the recent conflict, gives hope to securing a lasting peace in the region.

Chancellor solidsnake ordered the Strategic Bombardment of Assghanistan's Airfield in an attempt to strike a crippling blow to the rival country. Although the Assghanistani Airforce was not destroyed they are grounded for weeks because they were caught off guard with their pants down. Further military operations against Assghanistan are not known at this time. But in a interview with the 4th "Skaraborg" Heavy Bomber Wing commander Col. Ivar Skar Skarsgård claimed that high ranking government and military officials were pleased with the outcome. Stating that "Although we were not aware of the bombardment until twelve hours prior to take off we have shown that we are capable of striking anywhere at a moments notice in a effective manner". Even with the success of the bombardment the future remains unclear of the retaliatory measures that will be taken for the attack. But citizens of the our nation need not fear for our military is strong and our will is great.

The IMI (Ikea Ministry of Intelligence) has released this photo of the cratered runway of Assghanistan. This photo shows obvious damage to the runway circled in red. Defense Minister Carl Jarek has stated that the government hopes that this evidence of the the damage to the Airfield will incite other countries to help trample the regime of Assghanistan.

"Wonderfully executed, hmm?" Lieutenant Smithy could tell his commanding officer was in a good mood. The neatly-kept mustache above the Major's lip skewed to one side ever so slightly whenever he creased the corner of his mouth, the closest thing to a smile the man was capable of making.

Smithy said nothing; the Major was fond of asking rhetorical questions to no one in particular. To reply was to invite a resigned, almost exasperated look and a quiet sigh. Although never the target of these looks, Smithy had observed their usage many times, directed towards less tactful junior officers. The Major himself seemed tailor-made for such a look. Graying neatly-combed hair and mustache, the maroon beret with a pin in the shape of a rider on a winged horse, a blotchy Denison smock, and the overly large revolver with a lanyard running to a substantial leather holster all spoke of a time gone by.

The Major continued to scan the airfield with his field glasses, watching the crew chiefs unload pallet after pallet of supplies. Smithy remained silent, hands folded behind his back. Finally, the Major, appearing satisfied with the progress of Operation Amalthea lowered his field glasses and gave a final nod.

"Come along, Lieutenant," the Major said casually. "We need to make ready before those United Nations fellows show up and bungle another capitol in the region."

"Very good, sir," Smithy replied, following him to their waiting command vehicle. Their driver sat excitedly behind the wheel of the Land Rover, looking like a solitary man amidst a forest of radio antennas sprouting from the back and top of the vehicle.

"Make ready to move, Corporal Elliott," the Major said to the driver.

"Sir!" Corporal Elliott started up the engine as the officers hopped in. Smithy shot a quick glance over his shoulder back towards the airfield, with its massive cavernous planes disgorging a wealth of supplies and equipment. He had a feeling it would be quite some time before any of them saw anything like that again.

This week seemed to fly by. Val Verde was attacked and then quickly defended herself from the invaders with cunning military maneuvers and deft political acumen.

The Triple Kingdom sent peacekeepers to the destabilized Costaguanan nation. With this force there many believe that it will be fully stabilized within the kingdoms control in a few weeks.

Defense Minister Assassinated

Defense Minister Carl Jarek was killed today by a group of gunmen outside the Riksdag. Minister Jarek was leaving the building today after giving presentations on the recent bombing of Assghanistan when a group of gunmen attacked while the minister was getting into the motorcade. The minister was killed along with two Ministry Security agents. the group of 3 gunmen was quickly dispatched in a very brief firefight. The gunmen have appeared to belong to a terrorist faction being funded by government of Le Pays d'Invalides. Chancellor solidsnake has declared the military to go on full alert. It can only be assumed that military action will follow this attack. This is a somber day following the success of the attack planned by Minister Jarek.

In international affairs today, a significant agreement has been reached between the Triple Kingdom and the governments of both Brodesia and World Five Oh. The new Security Cooperation Assistance Treaty states that any actions taken against one member shall be regarded as an action against all members, with commensurate military and political actions authorized in response.

Prime Minister Singh issued a statement reading, quote, given the recent state of affairs on the mainland, Parliament agreed that entering into a mutual security agreement with friendly and ideologically-similar nations was a prudent course of action, unquote.

The Ministry of Defence has also announced that exchange programs between Triple Kingdom forces and the other SCAT members will commence shortly. The exchange of men and material is designed to better promote interoperability of all forces involved.

Yesterday our great, though non-ambulatory nation suffered a debilitating attack from Ikean bombers. This was an entirely unprovoked though not entirely unexpected attack. Shortly before the attack, several wings of Mig-21 fighters were rallied to protect key targets essential to the continuation of our economy and livelihood. Mechanized troops of the Wheels on Wheels brigade and airborne troops of the Soaring Cripples are sitting on high alert; they are eager to exact quick revenge. Citing recent instability and food riots 'The Grupo De Apoyo' met with and signed a charter with Triple Kingdom consulate. The mayor of the former capitol, Sulaco. Ruldopho Hester was able to speak with us in a brief interview.

Translator: We as Costaguanans feel as though we had been forced into acting like a bourgeois politician by the diplomats and generals. He now regards the Triple Kindgom with utter contempt. "Sir," he called out after a short jog. The Major was leaning back, aiming his large revolver with one hand at a distant ration box. Smithy placed his fingers in his ears as the Major squeezed off a final shot before he holstered the weapon and turned to face him. The Major removed his earplugs and looked at Smithy expectantly.

"Reports have come in that World 5 0 has launched a cavalry offensive against IKEA, Major. Orders are to prepare for restaging and redeployment." Smithy watched for any reaction from his superior officer. The Major frowned and absentmindedly scratched at a corner of his mustache.

"Came over the wireless did it?"

Any sense of peace was broken by Brodesian military forces fighting into Galuga. Assghanistan assaulted into Doppel Arschfichen quickly taking objectives close to their national resource.

"It was a hell of a fight" says Brigadier De Klerk, commander of 1 Brodesian Mech Brigade, "80% of my unit were casualties, but we took the war to the enemy, we killed more tanks, more soldiers, and more gun" However, not all the equipment performed as well as the tanks, or the infantry. A corporal in "A" Company, 1 RCR stated that "The BMP1s we bought were death traps, too lightly armoured. Lots of firepower, but everyone tends to cook when they brew up"

2 Mech Brigade also took heavy casualties, but overall Brodesian HQ deems the initial offensive to be a great success. The Chief of Defense staff was unavailable for comment at this time, but a source inside his office states that he was deeply saddened by the losses at this time.

Members of 1 Troop, "C" Squadron, 8th Canadian Hussars, of the Royal Brodesian Armoured Corps take some much needed rest during the battle for Galuga.

Brodesian Forces have had a tough go, a brilliant country attack briefly took control of the capital, and the bulk of the air force was destroyed on the ground or ran out of fuel and was forced to eject. Although Brohannesburg has been recaptured, the once beautiful city will take many years to fully rebuilt.

On a more jovial note, the Brodesian army has released their new recruiting poster today. It has no words on it, but sources inside the recruiting department say it speaks for itself.

"Where is your God now, you crippled bastards," the Major had mumbled over the music being transmitted on the pathfinding frequency. Lieutenant Smithy was surprised, it had to be the only time he had ever heard the Major express himself so strongly. Even in the earlier weeks spent fighting in the Ikean territory, he had never betrayed any sense of anger. They were currently on a pathfinding and bomb damage assessment mission, removed from the action for once. The music was transmitted over a very peculiar antenna array that was apparently directional; its relative strength let the bomber crews above know how far they were from the target in both distance and heading in relation to the broadcast source. In theory, this would help them to maintain their formation for optimal coverage of the target despite flying completely blacked out.

Smithy had felt a twinge of remorse as the first thousand pound bombs impacted and the large industrial complex began to shatter and buckle. As he unconsciously pressed himself into the soft earth of the hill he lay on, he wondered whether the workers would be able to escape. They were less than mobile in the best of times, let alone when the same implements of war they were making turned into possible sources of secondary explosions and fire. That had been well over an hour ago, and the explosions from the buildings in the complex had finally subsided.

The Major tapped him on the shoulder and motioned with his head towards the other side of the hill. Smithy pushed those thoughts aside as he set up his spotting scope and peered into eyepiece. He was greeted by a gruesome sight. In the exact center of his field of view, he could see a twisted and burned wheelchair, and the remains of a factory worker resting in it. As far as he could tell, a particularly large piece of shrapnel had taken the top portion of their torso clean off, leaving the bottom half sitting in the chair as if all was normal. The buildings all around were in a similar state, sprawled out thanks to the impact of multiple explosions. Thin sheet metal walls had been turned into gnarled tangles of blackened metal, and rubble lay everywhere. He ducked back down and started to draw on the clear overlay fastened to an aerial photograph of the factory taken weeks earlier by the air intelligence wing.

"I doubt they'll be making anything out of there anytime soon, sir." Smithy handed his sketch to the Major for review. The Major stared at the notations impassively for a few moments before returning them. He switched their radio on and tapped out a brief coded message. Smithy recognized it, having been made to memorize it in case the Major was killed or otherwise unable to key it in himself. "NO ANTS, PROCEED WITH PICNIC." A brief message of acknowledgment from headquarters came in reply, and the two packed up their equipment in silence before heading back down the hill.

"Likely going to be a busy week, Smithy. Damn invads never know when to quit."
