Less than 2 days to go! World Cup time bitches! Who do ya got? For funsies I'll try to keep track of everyone's correct - incorrect predictions and keep a running tally in the OP.

Here are my group stage predictions:

Group A: Mexico, France
Group B: Argentina, Greece
Group C: USA, England
Group D: Germany, Ghana
Group E: Netherlands, Japan
Group F: Italy, Slovakia
Group G: Portugal, Ivory Coast (I know its crazy to think no Brazil but I'm thinking crazy tonight)
Group H: Spain, Chile

16-0 is the bets possible outcome for the group stage.

Maddog: 0-0

Is this just who exits each group, or is the order in which we name them indicative of who we think is the higher seed? (e.g. you named USA ahead of England, so do you think we'll have more points?)

Presuming that is the case, here's my list:

A: France and Uruguay (I never believe in Mexico in the WC)
B: Argentina and Greece
C: England and USA
D: Germany and Serbia
E: Netherlands and Cameroon
F: Italy and Paraguay
G: Brazil and Portugal
H: Spain and Swizerland

Spain to win the whole thing.

I'll fill mine out soon but I'd also like to know. I'm presuming that we'll just go by getting out of the group though.

Maddog

I wasn't really paying attention to the order

Polish Hill
June 10th, 2010, 09:35 PM
A: France, Mexico
B: Argentina, Nigeria
C: England, USA
D: Germany, Serbia
E: Netherlands, Japan
F: Italy, Slovakia
G: Brazil, Portugal (I was huge on the Cote but no Drogba is a huge blow)
H: Spain, Switzerland

I went how I think the groups will finish (first, second) but I suppose it won't matter. Also, I hope the African teams do better than my predictions.

Drogba will play, just not the first game.

In a Health Psychology course I took last year, we looked at the rates for heart attacks at German hospitals during the summer of 2006, coinciding with the span in which that year's World Cup took place. Incidentally, there was a pretty big spike in reported heart emergencies at hospitals during that time :D

Fuck Australia's coach is fucking up, our two best players didn't start and he has 2 or 3 players out of position.

WHAT THE FUCK

Refs also give a walk off red to our best player in a nothing tackle meaning he's out for the next game and ignore a hand ball in the box.

Stalin
June 14th, 2010, 01:30 PM
Yeah I think everyone agreed that red card was bogus.

And hired most, if not all, of their fans. Fuck DPRK but I congrats to boring defensive formations.

Well fuck me sideways. That was a shambles and a half, shocking performance. Gerrard was utter gash, Rooney a complete non-start, and Glen Johnson was frankly dangerous. This does not inspire confidence.

I've seen every World Cup since 1974 (I've got he pictures to prove it) and I don't think I can remember a worse performance from an England team at a World Cup. FFS the current Scotland team would probably have fared better :p

Ghana ran circles around us for the first half. USA needs to stop letting early goals in and start getting better ball control in the first half rather than the second half.

I am so disappointed. :(

fucking Altidore is a bum. Should have been sub'd off early

And how do you have Feilhaber out at the start. That costs a fucking substitution and that guy had been gold in previous games. To make matters worse, the bastard they had him replaced with was the guy who turned the ball over on the early goal.

wtf.

Well done Germany on showing us English how to play football....

Utter shamble performance from England today, hope you do well!

Polish Hill
June 28th, 2010, 10:08 PM
Fucking Ricardo Clark. Bleh another four years but honestly the team should just get better and better as our player pool expands and MLS improves. Just sucks that one of the easiest paths to the final four we could have had was wasted. But just you wait, 2022 we've got a real good shot.

Yea and although I still believe Germany would have beaten England regardless that game would have been much different if it was properly 2-2.

Final tonight. Who ya got?

Nothing against the Dutch, who have played some good football to get to the final, but I'd like to see Spain win as some of their play has been absolutely breathtaking. I think Iniesta has been the player of the tournament, although he owes a great debt to Xavi for that. Those fuckers are almost telepathic.

Let's hope its a great advert for football either way. COME ON THE WINNERS!!! (caps)

Will be pulling for the Dutch but completely expect the Spaniards to win. Better talent, better execution, and more exciting. Just hope it isn't a 1-0 final (especially after yesterday's no defense bronze medal match) or even worse, a penalty shootout decision. Ugh.

Tackle of the tournament right there. I like how at the end of the gif it looks as though Marc van Bommel looks as though he's going to kick Alonso in the head. That man truly is the embodiment of evil.

There were a lot of dumb tackles in that game, especially by the Dutch. The ref played right into Spain's greasy hands by giving a couple of yellow cards for some great flops.
