Actually there's an American body armor question in here too:

What kind of body armor did Americans wear in Vietnam?

What kind of body armor did Soviet troops wear when they came to help the Afghan government in the 80s?

What about what the Russia Federation troops stationed in Chechnya wear for protective armor? And what the equivilent rating would be in the Kevlar level rating?

IIRC, the American vest worn during Vietnam protected only against shrapnel/fragments, a direct shot would go right through it. Thank you Mail Call.

Flak jackets. We wore them in the invasion until we got interceptor IBA.

I wonder if I would have gotten any responses at all if I didn't have the American body armor question in this thread :p
