I am going to attempt to make a server out of my extra cpu I have laying around. I run off cable modem so it won't be that bad. The computer right now is a homemade amd with the new Lan Party NF3 mobo and is overclocked at about 2.7mhz. and 1 gig of performace ram. I will take everything off it and put windows 2000 server on it.

I was wondering what type of interest there would be from you guys with a 2.5 server?

god damit, dont run server with windows, install linux if u wanna run server.
windows servers are laggy, thx to microsoft who is doing programns what are using more memory than they need to use. linux is allways best for hosting servers, not taking lot memory and server is running 10000 times smoother

I do have an old red hat version i got for free. Maybe I will do that. Do you think there is some interest though? Wait can windows people play on it though?

Thanks

This can actually go in the base FA forum. Custom content is more for people who've made their own models and sprites and sounds and things of that nature.

Use a windows server so 3rnd burst works properly

O wow herki, where can I get it for free? Is the burst a legit problem for everyone or just some? I think I will start with the Linux, never had it before as a OS. Any pointers on doing this server though?

There's a few distributions out there like Debian (http://www.debian.org) or SuSe (http://www.suse.de)(which is maintained by novell)... It's a matter of taste which one to use,but I'd rather stick to debian.

There are already a bunch of 2.5 servers...

And running off a cable modem *will* be horrible for any more than 8 players -- especially if you don't have the 'extreme' upgrade or whatever.

Remember to name your 2.5 firearms folder to 'Firearms25'
