Opinions?
Personally, I think Canadian companies should start looking for new markets. First the softwood lumber crap, the BSE bullshit, and now the US get caught with their pants down by an organization that they essentually instituted. I'm sure the Chinese could use some resources.

The government should apply the same level of tariffs on an industry equally dependant on Canadian consumers as the softwood lumber industry is on the American market, immediately. Once that's done, begin looking for new markets to sell our lumber to. Once the American government is up to its knees in complaints about tariffs and a lack of lumber from producers there will be negotiations again. Hell, maybe even they'll comply with NAFTA...

Not much else that can be done except find new markets. I wouldn't trust the Chinese to watch my dog (aha) nevermind sending them resources to build their country. Speaking of China, I think it's time to stop sending financial aid to China, they are more than capable of feeding and clothing themselves.
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty warned that the U.S. government's dismissal of the NAFTA ruling could jeopardize relations between the two countries.
I think we should have been more concerned about that a long time ago.

While I agree that aid should be stopped, there's to much money to be made off of the Chinese. Maybe it'll piss off the Japanese enough to lower the prices on some of their stuff.

The whole thing is ridiculious.
I think it's time we start putting a bunch of extra charges on things like power and other resources that the USA buys from us.

NAFTA blows. I like trade that benefits me, I'd rather not hide around a veil of "free trade" and just slap everybody else with the provisions of the treaty(ies) and completely ignore the provisions ourselves. It's gotten a bit better lately, the WTO has been slapping us back a bit.
